Expert on Tottenham potentially signing Sofyan Amrabat after ‘£50m’ update

Alan Hutton has told Tottenham to forget signing World Cup hero Sofyan Amrabat after reports of a £50million price tag.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and Aston Villa right-back said Amrabat is not the kind of player the Lilywhites need.

According to the Italian outlet La Republica (15 December), Antonio Conte’s side are stepping up their attempts to beat Liverpool and Atletico Madrid to signing the 26-year-old.

The London club are said to be willing to pay upwards of £50million for the defensive midfielder.

Tottenham had been interested back in January and after helping Morocco become the first African team to reach a World Cup semi-final, they face tough competition for his signature.

Amrabat’s deal at Fiorentina runs until 2024 and the club have the option to extend by a further 12 months.

Hutton suggested he is not the sort of player Spurs need.

He was outstanding in the World Cup and he will be in the team of the tournament there is no getting away from that,” he told Football Insider.

It just shows if you have five or six really good games and then you are worth £50m.

I think if you look at Tottenham at the moment, they need a player that can link midfield and attack, who can be that attack-minded player. I do not think they have got that at the moment.

To have a more defensive player, they have already got that. They kind of play with two at this moment in time. He would be a good signing but it is a lot of money and I do not believe that is exactly what they need right now.

In other news, Tottenham have been offered ‘excellent’ Kane replacement – ‘conversations to be had’, says expert.
