Expert outlines key Middlesbrough ‘mistake’ as Djed Spence to Tottenham is ‘done deal’
Tottenham will sign Djed Spence this summer following quotes from Chris Wilder.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
A recruitment source told Football Insider on Wednesday (29 June) that Tottenham are now only £1million apart from Middlesbrough’s valuation of Spence, 21.

Spurs have upped their bid and are now closer to the £20million price, including add-ons.
Wenham insists the deal will get done after quotes from Chris Wilder.
“It sounds like a few other deals are close as well,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“You have the Djed Spence stuff going on in the background. I saw Chris Wilder’s comments when he confirmed the clubs were in talks.
“He admitted Tottenham is where Spence wants to go and I think that is a deal that will happen. It’s just the clubs arguing over money, that’s their right.
“The mistake Middlesbrough made, was when Wilder was talking, he said they had asked about a Championship striker and they were quoted £20million.
“Now, him using that as an example, usually striker’s go for more than defenders. Him saying that a Championship player isn’t worth £20million puts a ceiling on their own player.
“I certainly think the deal is a few million away from being sorted, if that. He will be a Spurs player.”

Spence has enhanced his reputation over the last year while playing an instrumental role in Nottingham Forest’s successful promotion bid.
He made 40 league starts among 50 appearances in all competitions in 2021-22, and started all their playoff wins.
