Expert: Patrick Bamford ‘on the brink’ at Leeds United as deal agreed

Patrick Bamford is back training at Thorp Arch and is close to making his Leeds United return after recovering from surgery.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

Football Insider sources revealed last Wednesday (4 January) that Bamford was set for an extended spell on the sidelines after struggling in his recovery from a hernia operation.

The 29-year-old striker has suffered with a handful of injuries over the last 18 months and has failed to complete a full 90-minute match for the Whites this season.

It comes as Leeds finalise the club-record signing of Georginio Rutter from Hoffenheim, with a full agreement reached and the player heading in to put pen to paper on a long-term deal.

Dinnery insists that Bamford is “on the brink” of returning for Leeds after he was spotted back on the training pitches at Thorp Arch this week.

He’s had a fairly torrid time over the last 15 or 16 months, it just seems to be one thing after the other,” Dinnery told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

This initial operation was referred to as a minor surgical procedure with the expectation being that he’d be back in contention after two or three weeks.

Unfortunately, a virus sweeping through the Leeds camp did affect a lot of players and one of those was Bamford.

As a result, he missed some of the key recovery and rehab sessions.

But he is now back on the training pitches at Thorp Arch and while the FA Cup game against Cardiff just came a little bit too soon, he’s on the brink of making a return.

For Leeds now, it’s about ensuring that Bamford can return to that side and stay fit for the rest of the season.
