Expert prepared to eat ‘humble pie’ after twist in Tottenham bid to sign Antonio Rudiger

Antonio Rudiger “would walk” into the Tottenham side and it would be a “massive statement” if he can be signed.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (18 April) that Tottenham are back in the race to sign the Germany superstar, 29, after a behind-the-scenes twist.

Chelsea

A Tottenham source told this site that the club have maintained their pursuit but had fallen well behind the Continental elite including Barcelona.

Wenham has previously dismissed the chances of Spurs signing Rudiger but he now claims a deal could happen.

“The Rudiger stuff won’t go away despite the fact I’ve ruled it out a number of times,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Maybe we are trying, don’t get me wrong. He is a left-sided centre back, which is what we are looking for.

“He walks into our team, in fact, he’s been the best defender in the Premier League this season.

“I just never saw him leaving Chelsea to join us. I would happily eat humble pie on that though.

“It would be a massive statement if the club can get him and make him part of the side.

“I do really hope that happens.”

Rudiger has made 47 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea this season.

He has scored five goals, including a brilliant long-range effort against Brentford on 2 April.

In other news, Kevin Campbell has named the three Tottenham players who will clinch their top-four finish ahead of Arsenal.
