Expert ‘really surprised’ by Harry Kane moment in Tottenham clash – ‘I couldn’t believe my eyes’

The decision to keep Harry Kane on the pitch for the full 90 minutes as Tottenham beat Frankfurt was a “surprise” move from Antonio Conte.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Tottenham beat Frankfurt 3-2 on Wednesday (12 October) as they moved to the top of their Champions League group.

Kane, 29, played the full 90 minutes, scoring once and missing a late penalty.

With Tottenham facing a busy schedule ahead of the World Cup break, Wenham couldn’t believe the striker wasn’t withdrawn on the hour mark.

“Frankfurt were trying to kick Harry out of the game and he played 90 minutes again,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“It was 3-1 on 60 minutes and we were facing 10 men. He still played the full game. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw that Richarlison was the one who was coming off.

“He is the one, if you can afford for one of the three to get injured, it would be him because Kulusevski is going to be back for the Everton game.

“Lucas is back, we have options. I couldn’t believe it. I appreciate Richarlison plays a lot of minutes for Brazil but I really thought it was surprising when he came off and not Kane when you are leading 3-1.”

Tottenham moved to the top of their Champions League group by beating Frankfurt.

Their next game in the competition is against Sporting on 26 October.
