Expert reveals all on ‘groundbreaking’ Liverpool deal driven by data
Liverpool have still benefitted from their Zone7 partnership despite ranking second for injuries suffered in the 2022 calendar year.
That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.
Liverpool have been using Zone7 technology since the 2021/22 season, a data-driven company aiming to enhance the performance and availability of athletes.

The technology analyses in-game and training player information, as well as biometric, strength, sleep, and stress levels to create injury risk signals for the club’s medical staff.
Despite this, Dinnery reported that the Reds ranked second in 2022 for time-loss injuries, with their 50 only trailing Leeds United’s 51 – another team who are partnered with Zone7.
However, Dinnery suggests that Liverpool are taking fewer risks by knowing when to leave players out for shorter periods to avoid longer spells on the sidelines.
“Particularly in the case of Liverpool, they’ve played far more games than a lot of teams in the Premier League and have exposed themselves to more risk and therefore will naturally suffer more injuries,” He told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“Liverpool are involved with Zone7 and still top the table, but the number of injuries needs more context as that statistic can be misleading.
“If players are flagged in a potential ‘red zone’ – a phrase coined by Arsene Wenger – then those players will want to ease back and take a rest to avoid a major injury.
“But those setbacks tend to be very small and minimal to avoid major time loss injuries.

“The groundbreaking technology at Zone7 allows Liverpool to reduce the risk, taking a player out for a game or maybe even two games and avoid the risk and putting that player out who may suffer a major setback and spend seven or eight games on the sidelines.
“So it’s about risk and reward and the managing of players.“
