Expert reveals truth about Tottenham ‘signing’ Sofyan Amrabat

Tottenham will not sign Sofyan Amrabat in January despite fresh links following his World Cup exploits.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

The Fiorentina star has been one of the breakout stars at the World Cup – helping Morocco make history, finishing fourth after losing 2-1 to Croatia in Saturday’s (17 December) third-fourth playoff.

According to Foot Mercato (7 December), Spurs are interested in signing Amrabat in the January transfer window.

Tottenham were also heavily linked with a move for the midfielder last January and Wenham insists new oinks should not be believed.

“We were heavily linked last January, supporters went berzerk, they didn’t want him,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“They just saw him as some sort of bit-part Fiorentina player, why was he being linked with Tottenham? That sort of thing.

“Again, it would have been a good bit of business from Paratici. That being said, we have Bentancur, Bissouma, Skipp and Hojbjerg.

“We don’t need another holding midfielder. So however good he has been, which is very good, I’m not interested in getting him at Tottenham.

“I don’t think he is as good as Bentancur so that is the end of the discussion. I think links to him are just lazy at this point.

“He was heavily linked last year so let’s do that again. Probably, his agents are calling journalists and getting them to link Tottenham and other clubs.

“Then if he moves to someone in the Prem like Villa or Leicester then everyone gets paid.

That’s how these things tend to work.”
