Expert shares ‘absolutely ridiculous’ Celtic claim

Frank McAvennie has hailed Ange Postecoglou’s impact at Celtic after being left gutted by the club’s failure to win a domestic treble.

The former Hoops hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, can’t believe the Bhoys progress this season.

Celtic lost 2-1 to Rangers in last weekend’s (17 April) Scottish Cup semi-final, leaving the club’s hopes of a domestic treble in tatters.

The Hoops already have the Scottish League Cup in the bag and sit six points clear at the top of the league.

While McAvennie won’t admit the title is won, he admits he never thought Celtic would even be considering winning trophies this season.

“It was a disappointing loss last weekend,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I thought we would win, I think a lot of people did. But it wasn’t to be.

“Look at it this way. This season I was happy for us to just compete. I had no thoughts about us winning anything.

“The fact we are gutted about missing out on a treble is absolutely ridiculous.

“There are five games left and if we turn up then we will win the league.

“That’s two trophies coming off the back of one of the worst Celtic seasons I have ever seen.

“I just want to credit the manager, he has done so well to turn this club around.

“Next season we should be even better and I want to see us do better in Europe but what a job he has done.

“It will be just remarkable if we do win this title.”
