Expert shares ‘big’ Georgios Giakoumakis prediction after ‘brilliant’ Celtic update
Georgios Giakoumakis’ return to fitness is “brilliant news” for Celtic ahead of the final five games of the season.
That’s according to former Hoops hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after an update from Ange Postecoglou.
In his pre-Ross County press conference (22 April), Postecoglou confirmed Giakoumakis, 27, is available for this weekend’s game against Ross County (24 April).
The Greece international was missing as the Hoops lost 2-1 to Rangers in the Scottish Cup semi-final last weekend (17 April).
Daizen Maeda and Kyogo Furuhashi filled in but struggled against an impressive Gers defence.
McAvennie insists Giakoumakis’ return is a huge boost for his former side.
“Having Giakoumakis back is brilliant news,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“I think we really missed him last weekend. Kyogo wasn’t really at it when he came on but he has missed so much football.
“Giakoumakis has only missed a week or so, so he should be good to go because he is the man in form.
“He is scoring for fun at the moment and if he is fully fit, you would back him to grab a few more before the end of the season.
“These are big games and big players need to step up if we are going to win the title.
“That’s all you can do when there are players like Kyogo sniffing around.
“Just keep scoring. In fairness, that’s what he’d been doing.”

Giakoumakis has scored 13 goals in 24 appearances for Celtic this season.
He joined the Bhoys last summer after scoring 29 times in 33 games for VVV-Venlo.
In other news, Daizen Maeda among three Celtic stars slammed by pundit as ‘huge’ claim issued.
