Expert shares ‘brilliant’ Kyogo Furuhashi claim pre-Rangers after confirmed Celtic news

Kyogo Furuhashi is “desperate” to start for Celtic when they face Rangers on Sunday (17 April).

That’s according to former Hoops hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Japan international’s fitness.

Furuhashi, 26, made his long-awaited return from injury as Celtic beat St Johnstone 7-0 on Saturday (9 April).

This was his first league appearance since boxing day.

Georgios Giakoumakis went off injured during the game, with Ange Postecoglou telling Celtic TV on 12 April the club are still waiting on a scan before assessing the injury.

McAvennie insists Furuhashi will be ready to start on Sunday if the Hoops boss asks him to.

“Kyogo scored two big goals last time he was up at Hampden,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He will be desperate to start. I think he will start if Giakoumakis isn’t fit.

“If he is fit, then maybe he will start on the bench but he is a brilliant impact player.

“He will be desperate to get on the scoresheet after so long away from the action.

“I’m sure he will play some part in the game but either way, I’m sure Ange won’t take any risks with him.”

Furuhashi scored twice as Celtic beat Hibs 2-1 to win the Scottish League Cup at Hampden Park on 19 December.

He has scored a total of 16 goals in 27 outings for the Hoops since his summer move from Vissel Kobe.
