Expert shares 'incredible' Allan McGregor claim after Rangers source's surprise reveal

Allan McGregor is a Rangers legend and deserves to stay at Ibrox for as long as he wants.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after an update on McGregor‘s future.

On 9 May, this site revealed Rangers are in advanced talks with the 40-year-old over a new deal.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that the club are now close to agreeing an extension with the veteran goalkeeper.

The veteran stopper’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the season and it had been expected that he would quit.

Kenny has admitted he has been blown away by McGregor’s longevity and the unexpected twist on his future.

“Age is just a number,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“If he is still doing a job, give him a deal. That’s perfect for everyone. He is proving every week that he has still got it.

“He’s nearly the same age as me and I can’t get out of bed some mornings. I know he will be looked after a lot better but still, it’s incredible.

“He’s not making mistakes and he’s coming up trumps when Rangers need him to. He’s a big reason for them getting to the Europa League final in my opinion.

“He’s a legend at that club and he can probably stay as long as he wants to at this point.”

McGregor has played 442 times for Rangers over two spells with the club.

He is likely to start the upcoming Europa League final against Frankfurt (18 May) after missing 2008’s UEFA Cup final through injury.
