Expert shares verdict on Che Adams signing for Everton as swoop ‘ramped up’
Noel Whelan has claimed Southampton ace Che Adams “ticks boxes” for Everton despite his lack of goals in the top flight.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Merseysiders don’t have many “options” as the transfer deadline closes in.
According to The Telegraph (14 August), Everton will “ramp up” their efforts to sign a new centre-forward this week – with Adams, 26, “firmly” in the sights of Frank Lampard.

However, the report claims the Toffees’ finances are a “serious threat” to the chances of making further additions this summer.
Adams, who has scored five goals in 19 Scotland caps, is out of contract in June 2024.
The former Birmingham striker has notched 20 goals in 66 Premier League starts since joining Southampton in the summer of 2019.
Whelan insisted Lampard’s side need someone who is familiar with the rigours of England’s top flight.
He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “We know he’s a talented player, but when strikers come into clubs – it’s all about the goal record.
“Everton are buying him as a striker, but he’s not been prolific at this level.
“He works hard, but if you’re wanting to replicate Calvert-Lewin’s output – then that isn’t Che Adams.
“He can run in behind and stretch defences, but he’s not as prolific with his head or from wide areas.
“But I don’t see many options for Everton, they’re in a precarious position.

“The window shuts in three weeks and they need someone who they can rely on, someone who knows the league.
“Adams ticks those boxes. But Southampton wants a permanent move – that might scupper things with the finances.”
