Expert slams below par Rangers after what he saw – ‘not good enough’

Losing to Kilmarnock has been an “eye opener” to the new signings at Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers defender Alan Hutton wasn’t impressed with the poor relationships between the latest arrivals.

Michael Beale’s side lost their opening match to Kilmarnock on Saturday (5 August), suffering a 1-0 defeat at Rugby Park.

Despite dominating possession and registering 18 shots, the Gers failed to come out on top in their Premiership opener.

Summer signings Kieran Dowel, Sam Lammers, Cyriel Dessers and loanee Abdallah Sima were all in the starting lineup for their competitive debut.

Fellow new arrivals Danilo and Jose Cifuentes were on the bench, with the former getting a run out for the last 20 minutes of the match.

When asked what he made of the overall performance, Hutton told Football Insider:I hate when everybody starts talking about the pitch because both teams have to play on it but it does play its part.

That aside I think Rangers were not good enough.

Rangers

They did cause Kilmarnock problems, they did create opportunities but it looked like they were off it. I think the relationships were not quite there between the strikers.

The goal they conceded, we have seen it before in pre-season and continued in to the season so it is something that will need to be worked out. Overall I think it was a real eye opener for the new signings.

In other news, Leeds United are in advanced talks to sign Rangers midfielder as 10 clubs lose out.
