Expert suggests Cristian Romero ‘problem’ amid ‘huge’ Tottenham claim

Alan Hutton has claimed winning the World Cup will give Cristian Romero a “huge” boost when he returns to Tottenham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs defender said the “problem” will be reminding Romero that he has games to play for the Lilywhites.

The 24-year-old became a World Cup winner after playing the full 120 minutes against France on Sunday (18 December).

The centre-back and his Argentinian teammates returned to South American to celebrate the victory and the players could miss several games for their clubs.

Romero has made eight league appearances for the Lilywhites so far this season.

Since his loan was made permanent in the summer, the Argentinian has struggled with injury problems that have kept him out of the starting lineup.

But Hutton insisted the defender’s triumphs in Qatar will help him once he returns to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

I think he had a little bit of a difficult time with injury and maybe not being fully fit and having top confidence,” he told Football Insider.

I think we are seeing why Tottenham had bought him. He is obviously an outstanding defender. Every single person within that squad, their confidence will be through the roof.

The problem will be getting them back and reminding them that they have got games coming up. I think it will be a huge boost and hopefully now he will go from strength to strength and really put a good run of form down.
