Expert thrilled as new Leeds United transfer all but done amid ‘£100m’ claim

Leeds United will not be in the same position as they were last season after making five senior signings.

That’s according to ex-Whites stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about his former side’s transfer business.

Leeds United have signed Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen, Luis Sinisterra, Tyler Adams and Marc Roca this summer.

However, Kalvin Phillips has left the club to join Man City while The Athletic’s Phil Hay (11 July) reports Leeds and Barcelona are “heading for an agreement” over the transfer of Raphinha.

The Whites suffered from a lack of squad depth in the 2021-22 season as injuries ravaged the side over the festive period.

Kenny is delighted to see Leeds add depth to their squad even though one key player has already left.

“They had to strengthen the squad,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“We touched on it last season, it nearly cost them their place in the Premier League.

“They have to go out there and have more options, they have to. They have spent £90million or £100million, whatever it is.

“They have some good players in and the squad is thicker. When the injuries and suspensions come they have the ability to cope with it.

“The important thing is Leeds don’t find themselves in the position they were in last season.”

Leeds start their 2022-23 Premier League campaign at home against Wolves on 6 August.

The club are set to travel to Austria as part of their pre-season schedule.
