Expert tips new Pape Matar Sarr role at Tottenham after pre-season reveal

Pape Matar Sarr may remain at Tottenham this season despite links with a loan move to AC Milan.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Sarr, 19, has turned out in Spurs colours for the first time during the club’s pre-season.

He most recently featured as a late substitute as Tottenham beat Rangers 2-1 at Ibrox on Saturday (23 July).

The midfielder was signed in the summer of 2021 but was immediately loaned back to Metz for the 2021-22 season.

Fabrizio Romano reported on 21 July that AC Milan have discussed a loan move for Sarr with Spurs but Wenham claims he may remain at N17 this season.

“Pape Sarr came on against Rangers, he could be an interesting prospect this season,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“With Sarr, it’s worth mentioning that he would not have to be included in our 25-man squad because he is 19.

“It’s a free hit for Tottenham whatever they decide to do with him this year. I know there is lots of talk about a potential loan move to AC Milan.

“It will be interesting to see what happens with him because he doesn’t need to be registered. Tottenham don’t need to worry about him taking someone else’s space.

“If they do want to get rid of him then there is the chance to wait until right at end of the window.”

Sarr made 34 appearances in all competitions for Metz during the 2021-22 season.

He also helped Senegal win the Africa Cup of Nations in January.
