Expert: Tottenham about to complete Ivan Perisic deal as ‘utterly ridiculous’ claim made
Ivan Perisic is an “outstanding signing” for Tottenham after his “utterly ridiculous” 2021-22 season with Inter Milan.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
As revealed by Football Insider (28 May) Perisic, 33, is close to signing for Tottenham from Inter Milan.
The wide man leaves Inter after the expiry of his deal and could become Antonio Conte’s second summer signing.
Wenham admits he couldn’t be more excited about the signing.
“It sounds like a two-year deal for Perisic with some reports saying £98,000-per-week,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“I couldn’t be more excited about this signing. For years and years and years I have wanted Tottenham to make experienced signings.
“I don’t just mean like a 41-year-old Brad Friedel or a 36-year-old Joe Hart. Perisic is a guy who can still deliver at the top level.
“You only have to look at the 3900 minutes he played for Inter last season. The fact that many people said he was one of the best players in Serie A last season as well.
“He got 10 goals and nine assists from left wing-back last season, it’s utterly ridiculous numbers in a league that is very hard to score in.
“Conte knows him inside out, he’s a Champions League winner.
“He has won at Inter and Bayern and he’s a player who will get you over the line in those big games.
“He instantly improves the first XI, he’s an outstanding signing. It’s a real statement.”
