Expert: Tottenham ‘absolutely looking’ at signing Jordan Pickford as Hugo Lloris faces axe

Tottenham are “absolutely looking” at signing Jordan Pickford from Everton.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Pickford, 28, has started all of his country’s major tournament games since their opening fixture at the 2018 World Cup and is once again impressing in Qatar.

However, he suffered a disappointing start to the season with Everton and the club went into the World Cup break one place and one point above the relegation zone.

The former Sunderland stopper has just over 18 months remaining on his contract at Goodison Park and Wenham claims Spurs are monitoring the situation.

“Tottenham will absolutely be looking at that,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I think he is a very, very good goalkeeper. He is a bit unusual, personality-wise, I wonder if that is the reason he has stayed at Everton.

“He would be an asset to have at the back behind that defence. If Tottenham decide that Lloris is done and he can go, maybe next summer, then I don’t think you can go wrong with Pickford.

“I’m sure Pickford, at some point, will look to move to a club playing in the Champions League, he doesn’t want to be in a relegation battle.

“He should be at a big club, fighting for trophies rather than losing 7-1 to Bournemouth on aggregate across two games in the same week.”

Everton

Pickford has started all but one of Everton’s Premier League games this season.

He has kept three clean sheets in the competition.
