Expert: Tottenham have decided to sell Kion Etete after pre-season development

Kion Etete is likely to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer after not travelling to South Korea for the club’s pre-season tour.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Etete did not travel to South Korea despite spending the first week of pre-season training with the first team at Hotspur Way.

The 20-year-old forward scored nine goals across loan spells at Northampton and Cheltenham during the 2021-22 season.

After failing to travel to Asia, Wenham predicts the striker will leave the club permanently.

“It was surprising to see Kion Etete not go on the tour after training with the first team,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“To my mind, the fact he has not gone, a decision has been made that he is going to move on from Tottenham this summer.

“I think for whatever reason he didn’t do enough in that week, which is a shame. I now do imagine, with only a year left on his contract, he will leave.

“He could renew and go out on loan which I hope happens. I did see links with Portsmouth, who knows if that will be a permanent move at this stage?

“I just don’t think he will have a role to play this season. He only came on for the last half an hour for the under 21s the other day.

“As soon as he did come on he looked levels above everyone else and if he had been on longer we might have won.”

Etete scored six goals for Northampton during the first half of the 2021-22 season.

He then made 13 appearances and scored three goals for Cheltenham during the second half of that campaign.
