Expert: Tottenham may approach Chris Powell over manager role after what I saw at Hotspur Way

Tottenham may ask Chris Powell to take over as manager of their ailing Under-23 side.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Tottenham’s youth side are yet to win in the Premier League 2 this season and Wenham watched the Under-19s lose to Sporting Lisbon’s youth side on Wednesday (26 October).

He insists there will be changes to arrest this poor form in January.

“Another disappointing result, I am going to merge together the Youth League results this year which is one win from five, with the Under-21s league form this season, where they have not won a game,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I merge them together and I am watching the game and I can see Chris Powell watching that game not as a manager.

“There is not a world where January comes and we are bottom of the Under-21s league, Fabio Paratici allows us to go down with all the developments he is doing.

“There are going to be changes in January, I am certain of it. Powell is standing there, are they going to ask him to take the job?

“I don’t have inside info on this, this is just my opinion from seeing things yesterday. You have a man there who has managed in the Championship recently.

“He went to the last major tournament as part of Gareth Southgate’s team, the players respect him. We need to do something.

“We cannot have these facilities and be relegated from the Premier League 2. They cost more than the training grounds of the rest of the teams in our group.

“Something has to change. I think that will happen as soon as January, I like the existing coach, Wayne Burnett, don’t get me wrong.

“I just think sometimes there needs to be a change made and I can see Tottenham approaching Chris Powell.
