Expert: Tottenham preparing for ‘difficult’ Harry Winks sale – ‘he has no future at Spurs’

Harry Winks’ potential return to fitness will put him in the shop window as Tottenham prepare to sell.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Winks, 26, joined Italian side Sampdoria on loan in the final days of the 2022 summer transfer window.

However, because of injury, he is yet to make an appearance for the club who sit second-bottom of Serie A and only have one win from 15 league games.

As relayed by ClubDoria 46 (15 December), Winks has now trained for the first time without pain and is nearing a return to first-team action.

Wenham claims Winks needs game time so Spurs can move him on next summer.

“He has no future at Tottenham Hotspur,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I don’t mind him as a person, I have no issue with him hanging around at Tottenham. He came through the ranks and played for England but he obviously has no future here. Conte has made that very clear.

“All of the midfielders we have are miles better than him so I just want him to put himself in the shop window basically.

“He needs football and fitness. There is no way we are going to move him on if he barely plays. Who is going to sign a player who essentially missed a full season of football because of injury?

“So it’s a difficult situation but all he can do now is play.”

Tottenham

Winks has only ever played for Spurs, joining the club’s academy in 2002 and making his senior debut in November 2014.

He has gone on to make 203 appearances for the club in all competitions.
