Expert: Tottenham revenue about to skyrocket after Cristian Romero development – ‘it could be huge’

Tottenham are glad Cristian Romero won the World Cup instead of Hugo Lloris as his value has now rocketed up.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Romero, 24, played the full 120 minutes as Argentina beat France to win the World Cup on Sunday evening (18 December).

The defender’s club teammate, Lloris, 35, also played the full game as he failed to save any of Argentina’s penalties in the shootout after a thrilling 3-3 draw.

Now Romero is a World Cup winner, Wenham claims Tottenham will find it far easier to market the player, which could, in turn, drive revenue into the club.

“I think, talking about this objectively, from Tottenham’s point of view, thinking about marketing and image rights value of a player, they would prefer Romero to win [the World Cup],” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“We would then have two World Cup winners in the squad because Lloris has already won one, that could be huge for the club. Romero is a 24-year-old centre-back who has been a key component of Argentina winning the World Cup.

“I just think that exponentially raises his whole value. So if Tottenham had or have a preference, I think it would have been for Romero to win.

“That being said, if Lloris had won back-to-back World Cups, it would only be the third time that had ever happened.

“I could be wrong but he may have been the first captain to win back-to-back World Cups. So that has his benefits as well.

“But from a purely financial, marketing point of view, Tottenham will be glad Romero has won it because, as I say, it just raises his value in every aspect.

“That then helps the club in terms of advertising and revenue, it all adds up.”
