Expert: Tottenham set for ‘monumental blow’ after source’s Sam Amo-Ameyaw reveal
Tottenham starlet Sam Amo-Ameyaw has turned down the club’s scholarship deal.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
On Tuesday (28 June) Wenham revealed Amo-Ameyaw, 15, has turned down Tottenham’s scholarship proposal and has offers on the table from both Manchester clubs.
In September, Football Insider revealed Tottenham offered a scholarship contract to the schoolboy sensation and it is understood he is held in high regard at the club’s Hotspur Way headquarters.
In another tweet, Wenham described the loss of Amo-Ameyaw as a “monumental blow”.
He claims the player’s decision to turn down Spurs’ offer is financially motivated.
“I was told by a source he has turned down Spurs’ new scholarship offer and I’ll be honest, it comes down to money,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“People will be frustrated but I absolutely understand why players do it.
“However good you are now, there is no guarantee you pick up an injury tomorrow and you are out.
“You can make £1million by the time you turn 18 or 19. That’s your whole life if you invest it wisely.
“That’s just the way it is and Tottenham will not pay the money. Tottenham make it clear at Under 8s or Under 9s levels that you will get more money elsewhere but at Tottenham, you have the benefit of a clear pathway to the first team.”

Tottenham typically offer scholarships around February or March, with the deals then starting on 1 June.
Amo-Ameyaw made 10 appearances for the various Spurs youth sides in 2021-22.
In other news, one pundit claims Tottenham are ready to bomb Steven Bergwijn out of the club after source’s reveal.
