Expert: Tottenham starlet Kion Etete set for promotion after source’s reveal – ‘I was told…’

The Nigerian Football Association have taken notice of Tottenham starlet KIon Etete and will monitor his progress during the 2022-23 season.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

As revealed by the Lilywhite Rose Twitter account on Friday (27 May) the Nigerian Football Association are weighing up whether to approach Etete about playing for the country.

The 20-year-old forward scored nine goals across loan spells at Northampton and Cheltenham during the 2021-22 season.

On 31 March Football Insider revealed Tottenham have opened preliminary talks with a Championship club over a loan deal for Etete ahead of next season.

Wenham insists it is no surprise to see Etete garnering interest from Nigeria.

“He’s 20 now and he’s never really had a look-in at any England Under 20 levels,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“It’s no surprise to me to hear Nigeria are interested in him. He’s got Nigerian parentage so he would be eligible for them.

“It seems to be a lot of African or Caribbean teams are looking at players with dual nationality to represent them.

“It’s becoming more are more common. What I was told is that Nigeria are impressed with what he did last season.

“Obviously his size is impressive. So if he can go and do it say, for example, in the Championship next season (2022-23) they may be making a call to have a look at him.

“That would really rewarding for his progress over the last 18 months.”
