Expert verdict on Ridvan Yilmaz quitting Rangers – ‘it doesn’t sit well’
Alan Hutton has backed Ridvan Yilmaz to stay at Rangers.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender expected Yilmaz to be the first choice left-back and said talk of him leaving “doesn’t sit well”.
As quoted by the Daily Record (13 December), Galatasaray boss Okan Buruk admitted that his side are monitoring the 21-year-old.
The left-back arrived at Ibrox from Besiktas in the summer in a deal worth over £5million but has only made two starts for the Gers.
The Turkey international put pen to paper on a five-year deal with the Glasgow giants, who are said to be keen to hold onto him.
Hutton believes Yilmaz still had a lot to offer Michael Beale’s side.
“I still think it is a strange one,” he told Football Insider.
“Yilmaz came in and we thought he was really going to hit the ground running. We thought he was going to take over, that would be his position.
“They spent a lot of money on him. He looked like the go-to guy and it did not quite work but I like what I had seen so far.

“So for there to be talk of him leaving already, it does not sit well. Maybe he is not settling I do not know but hopefully Michael Beale can give him that game time when he is fit and we can see the best of him.
“From what I have seen in flashes, there is definitely a player there that can go and affect teams. Hopefully he does stay and get a run in the team.“
