Expert ‘very close to Tottenham’ issues Lo Celso verdict after source’s swap update

Paul Robinson has urged Tottenham to “trust” manager Antonio Conte even if it means “top players” like Giovani Lo Celso are forced out of the club.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one revealed his “frustration” at Spurs’ lack of activity in the January window.

Lo Celso, 25, was omitted from the Lilywhites squad that lost 2-0 at Chelsea on Sunday.

A Spurs source has told Football Insider (25 January) that the club are offering the Argentine midfielder in part-exchange for Sevilla defender Diego Carlos, who is also wanted by Newcastle.

Conte has given the green light for Lo Celso to exit after growing frustrated at his pre-match preparation and inability to follow tactical instructions.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the midfielder’s seemingly imminent exit, Robinson said: “I’m a big fan of his.

“I think he’s a top player.

“But at this period of time, the club have to trust Antonio Conte. Spurs have got a world-class manager in charge. They have to trust him.

“You have to give him two or three transfer windows to shape this squad. It’s not going to be a quick fix at Spurs. He needs time to get rid of the players he doesn’t want.

“It sounds like Lo Celso is one of them. Yes, I like him and yes, I think he is good in numerous positions but if Conte doesn’t want him then that is the right decision. You have to trust him.

“I’m very close to Tottenham for obvious reasons. It frustrates me how long the club are taking to do their business when we know Conte wants players in.”
