Fabio Carvalho backed to explode after latest Liverpool development – Whelan
Noel Whelan has insisted first league goals from Fabio Carvalho and Harvey Elliott will lift the “massive” pressure on their shoulders at Liverpool.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the breakthrough will have done the duo “the world of good” after a tough start to the new campaign.
Carvalho, 20, and Elliott, 19, notched their first Premier League goals as Liverpool claimed their first league win this term with a 9-0 demolition of Bournemouth on Saturday (27 August).
The duo, who both came through the ranks at Fulham, are contracted to the Merseysiders until June 2027.
Both youngsters are expected to play a part in Liverpool’s midfield amid injuries to Thiago and Naby Keita.
Whelan insisted the age of Elliott and Carvalho is irrelevant.
He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “This is why they’ve brought this young blood into the first team.
“They needed players who aren’t going to be phased by the players they’re alongside.
“The trust is there from the manager, and it doesn’t matter what age they are – they’ve been brought in because they’re good, clever players.

“These goals will do them the world of good with the confidence they’re going to get from that.
“It was an emphatic performance. Both these guys will have wanted to get their feet under the table after a tough start to the season, and those goals will have released a massive amount of pressure.”
