Fabio Carvalho: Liverpool holding new talks with Fulham over February deal after personal terms agreed – Sources

Liverpool will hold new talks with Fulham this month over a deal for Fabio Carvalho as they look to strike an agreement well ahead of the summer, Football Insider has learned.

The Merseyside giants came within a whisker of landing the 19-year-old sensation on Monday night but could not process the agreed £8million deal before the window shut.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Liverpool and Fulham have already agreed to recommence negotiations this month with a view to having a deal in place before Carvalho becomes a free agent.

The attacking midfielder has his heart set on a move to Anfield and has already undergone a medical – which took place on Monday – as well as agreed personal terms on a long-term contract.

Both Liverpool and Fulham are keen to avoid the transfer fee being decided by an independent tribunal.

Carvalho will be a free agent from the end of June but the fee will be millions as the west London club will be due a significant compensation fee for development costs.

Liverpool want an early deal in place as they are aware of strong interest from the likes of Leeds United, Southampton and West Ham.

This site broke the news on 20 January that Liverpool were working on a deal to land the red-hot teenager after getting the green light from chief scout Barry Hunter.

Liverpool lured then 16-year-old Harvey Elliott away from Fulham in 2019 when his contract expired.

The two clubs were unable to reach an agreement over a fee and an independent tribunal decided that Liverpool should pay an initial £1.5million topped up by performance-related add-ons of £2.8m and a 20 per cent sell-on clause.

Carvalho, who has been at Fulham since he was 12, started the Championship season with three goals in his first four league games, but his campaign has been disrupted by a toe injury and a bout of Covid.

He has returned to top form in recent weeks during an astonishing run of results at his club.

Carvalho, who has been operating in a number 10 role, has scored three times and supplied three assists from Fulham’s last four matches, which have yielded three wins and a draw.
