Fabio Carvalho: ‘Liverpool will be angry’ as deal could now be hijacked – pundit
Liverpool will be “angry” they were not able to complete a deal for Fabio Carvalho on deadline day and there is no guarantee they will sign him in the summer.
That is the view of ex-Aston Villa and England attacker Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Carvalho’s situation as he enters the final months of his Fulham contract.
A recruitment source told Football Insider on Saturday (5 February) Liverpool will hold talks with Fulham as they look to strike a deal before the end of the season.
The 19-year-old’s £8million move to Anfield collapsed on Monday (31 January) as the fee could not be processed in time.
He is a free agent in the summer but because of his age, a tribunal would be needed if a deal cannot be agreed.
“The summer is a totally different situation,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“In the summer he can go for a free. You know what agents are like, they’ll be looking for someone who can match what Liverpool are paying.
“If I’m Carvalho I’m thinking, am I going to play at Liverpool? Diaz, Jota, Salah and Mane will all be in front of him. Are you going to get the minutes you want?
“If I’m him, I’m thinking about that as well as the package. I’m sure his agent will be too. If there’s another big club where he’s got more chance of playing and they can match the wages, he’ll go there.

“Liverpool will be angry that they didn’t get it done in January even though talks are scheduled this month.
“What I like about them know is they are looking to increase their options, like Man City.”
