‘Farhad Moshiri takes parting shot at Sean Dyche after Everton takeover’

Farhad Moshiri appears to have taken a parting shot at Sean Dyche after being bought out of Everton by The Friedkin Group.

It was confirmed on Thursday (19 December) that the US-based group had completed their purchase of a controlling stake in the club from Moshiri.

That brought an end to the 69-year-old’s eight-year spell as owner of the Toffees, who leaves them 16th in the Premier League table.

Upon his departure the club’s now-former owner published a letter bidding farewell to the Everton faithful, and seemingly taking something of a dig at Dyche.

Farhad Moshiri overlooks Everton manager in parting letter

It was Moshiri who appointed Dyche as manager at Goodison Park back in January 2023, when the former Burnley boss replaced Frank Lampard in the role.

Under the 53-year-old Everton have avoided relegation in the past two seasons, with 17th and 15th place finishes, despite a six-point deduction last season, followed by a second one for two points.

Even so, it seems Moshiri does not consider him to be as high a calibre of some of the other appointments he made on Merseyside, at one point in his letter writing:

“We brought top class managers like Carlo Ancelotti to the club and who knows where we might have been had he not been lured back to his first love Real Madrid.”

The fact that Dyche does not get a mention here does seem to be a sign that the departing owner holds the current Everton manager in much lower regard.

Admittedly, the 53-year-old does not have the trophy-winning pedigree of the current Real Madrid boss, and few would likely dispute that suggestion of differing levels.

Sean Dyche was rather overlooked in Farhad Moshiri’s Everton farewell

Nevertheless, Dyche did do a good job in keeping the team in the Premier League in the past couple of season, amid a challenging financial situation that developed under Moshiri.

Had he not kept them up in that period ensuring they continued to gain the financial benefits of being a top-flight club, Everton would have been in an extremely difficult position right now.

Indeed, had such a situation emerged due to relegation, it would surely have created a lot of problems for Moshiri himself.

As a result, he may feel he is deserving of a simple “best wishes” from Moshiri at the end of this letter given what he did for the club under him, especially when a previous manager gets such a flowing reference.

With Dyche looking as though he will be remaining at Everton following the takeover though, he may feel he now has a chance to prove to his former boss, just how good a manager he really is.
