Fashion Sakala has ‘laid marker down’ at Rangers amid journalist’s £4m update – Hutton
Alan Hutton has insisted Fashion Sakala has “laid a marker down” at Rangers after his first start of the season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers right-back wasn’t surprised Giovanni van Bronckhorst included Sakala in the starting lineup to face St Mirren on Saturday (8 October).
The 25-year-old played the full 90 minutes and provided a goal and an assist in a 4-0 win.
The Zambia international was linked with a move away from Ibrox during the summer.
According to The Athletic‘s Jordan Campbell (10 October), Burnley were said to be willing to pay between £2million and £4million for the forward.
But Van Bronckhorst was keen to hold on to the attacker and he remained in Glasgow.
Sakala has three years remaining on his current contract.
When asked if he was surprised by Sakala’s inclusion in the starting XI, Hutton told Football Insider: “Not really.
“I think it was a good opportunity to make a couple of changes off the back of the Liverpool game.
“It was a good opportunity for Sakala, playing on the right hand side, I think it is an area that is up for grabs within the Rangers team.
“I thought he started off slow but in the second half he really warmed to it.

“You obviously see with his assist and goal that he means business.
“He has laid a marker down for the upcoming games.“
