‘It’s been depressing’ – Celtic 27-year-old makes admission about spell on sidelines
Celtic forward Leigh Griffiths has provided Hoops fans with a positive injury update after being out for almost two months with a calf injury.
The 27-year-old is back in the Hoops squad to face Ross County on Saturday and he is delighted as missing so many big games has been a “nightmare” for the player.
“It has been long. It’s been depressing,” Griffiths said to CelticTV, as quoted by the Evening Times.
“These calf injuries have been a nightmare since the manager came in but hopefully I have found the cause of it and it is finally fixed.
“It is disappointing when you are missing first-team matches but the most important thing is you need to get back fit and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
Whilst out injured, Griffiths missed both legs of the Europa League clash against Zenit as well as league matches against nearest title challengers Aberdeen and Rangers.
Griffiths returns at a good time for the Hoops, with the Scottish Cup semi-final against the Ibrox side only a fortnight away.
Football Insider verdict
Hoops fans will be delighted that Griffiths has made his long-awaited return from injury. The Hoops hitman was in a great run of form before his absence, and manager Brendan Rodgers will be looking to give him some game time against Ross County. With another two league matches set to take place before the Hoops face Rangers in the Scottish Cup semi-final, it will be intriguing to see if Griffiths starts any matches before the semi-final, as he has proved in the past to be a thorn in the Gers’ side, and if he feels completely fit then there is no reason why he shouldn’t start against Graeme Murty’s side next month.
