Finance guru ‘concerned’ by Uefa after Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan speaks out – ‘it was very distressing’
Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan is right to question Uefa’s approach to discovering what went wrong at the Stade de France prior to the Champions League final, according to Doctor Dan Plumley.
The football finance expert, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, is “concerned” by the way in which the authorities are handling the situation.
Supporters experienced overcrowding, pepper spray, tear gas and organisational chaos at the Champions League final on 28 May.
Speaking to club media (2 June), Reds CEO Billy Hogan called for “an open and transparent investigation” into the events that unfolded.
It came just days after Hogan revealed that the club were not asked for their “input or to submit any information” ahead of a meeting between the French authorities, Uefa and a number of other stakeholders on 30 May.
On 3 June, Uefa issued an apology to fans who attended the final and promised an independent review into the matter.
When asked by Football Insider if Uefa’s handling of the investigation is worrying, Plumley said: “It’s concerning, absolutely.
“The scenes were very distressing.

“You would want an independent investigation and you want all sides to be considered and consulted. It is concerning.
“Uefa have got to get a hold of this and make sure it is done properly. All parties have to be considered. They have to collate every bit of information they can to understand what happened and why.”
