Finance guru issues verdict on Klopp ‘power’ grab as Liverpool spat with rival boss intensifies

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp wants to consolidate all the “power” in the Premier League within the hands of the top clubs.

That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the elite German manager’s recent comments.

Klopp wants to ease the pressure on his squad with the reintroduction of the five-substitute rule, which needs the blessing of 14 clubs to be passed.

Per The Sun last Monday week (27 December), he complained that the likes of “Burnley” have an equal say despite having fewer international players.

As quoted by The Mirror last Saturday (1 January), Clarets boss Sean Dyche riposted: “Does five subs give me more power? No, it doesn’t.”

Plumley claimed that Klopp’s desire to change top-flight voting parameters is motivated entirely by self-interest.

“He’s just having a moan because it doesn’t suit Liverpool,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams

“What do these clubs want? When you look at Project Big Picture, you can see what they want.

“They want voting rights to be reduced to a majority of nine. They are trying to change the governance and power structure but that’s not where we’re at.

“The big clubs always want a little bit more going their way and they should probably stop moaning about it.

“When you have a squad the size of Liverpool, there are other things you could be worried about.”

Liverpool have lost Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita to the Africa Cup of Nations this month.

They are currently 3rd in the league table, while Burnley are 18th.
