Finance guru verdict on Liverpool fans receiving compensation – ‘this one is on Uefa’

Doctor Dan Plumley has called on Uefa to “compensate” Liverpool and Real Madrid fans who missed out on the Champions League final “through no fault of their own.”

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the football finance expert pointed the finger at Uefa and suggested they should bear the cost of the compensation.

On 28 May, fans experienced overcrowding, pepper spray, tear gas and organisational chaos at the Stade de France prior to the Champions League final.

The kick-off was delayed by half an hour with many supporters not entering the stadium until half time.

Others who left the stadium due to the distressing scenes were attacked by local gangs.

Speaking to club media (2 June), Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan called for “an open and transparent investigation” into the events that unfolded in Paris.

On 3 June, Uefa issued an apology to fans who attended the final and promised an independent review into the matter.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if fans should be compensated for what happened at the Stade de France, Plumley said: “Yes, I think there could be compensation.

“The right thing to do is to compensate the fans. If fans have missed out from no fault of their own and for other reasons then they should be compensated.

“It goes back to the governing body so that one is on Uefa. They need to get to the bottom of it.”
