Brentford have had a bid accepted by Peterborough United for Rangers and Celtic target Ivan Toney, Football Insider can reveal.

The Championship promotion chasers have made a decisive move in the battle for the prolific striker, 24, this summer.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that the offer from Brentford for Toney is between the £3.5million and £5m mark.

But a deal has yet to be agreed between the centre-forward and the London high flyers.

This suggests the door is still open for Toney's many suitors, who include Bournemouth and West Brom as well as Rangers, Celtic and the New York Red Bulls.

Brentford are nonetheless in pole position to sign the former Newcastle United ace, just days after Eddie Howe's side led the race.

The forward has made up his mind to quit London Road after a stunning 26-goal campaign that has put him on the radar of many top clubs.

Toney was on fire before the March lockdown, netting 24 league goals - nine more than anyone else - among 26 in all competitions this season.

Since signing from Newcastle United in 2018, the front man has netted 49 goals in 94 matches as well as supplied 15 assists.
