Sporting Lisbon have agreed to sign Wolves defender Ruben Vinagre in an £8.6million deal, Football Insider understands.

The left-back, 22, is heading out of Molineux to end a four-year association with the club.

A Wolves source has told Football Insider that the club have reached an agreement with Sporting over a deal in which Vinagre will join for a fee worth £8.6m.

The Portuguese club have beaten rivals Benfica to Vinagre’s signature.

The wide defender was hailed by ex-manager Nuno Espirito Santo as "special" and "massively important".

However, that didn't stop him sending Vinagre out on loan last season.

He initially joined Olympiakos on a temporary deal last summer but played out the campaign with Famalicão in Portugal.

Vinagre would have found his opportunities limited at Molineux after Rayan Ait-Nouri arrived on loan.

Vinagre moved to Wolves, initially on loan from Monaco, in the 2017-18 campaign.

He made the move permanent after the Midlands outfit were promoted to the Premier League.

The ex-Portugal youth international scored three times and provided two assists in 70 games across all competitions for Wolves.

That includes 35 Premier League appearances.

However, he will likely not add to that number under new manager Bruno Lage.

The Portuegese has already added Yerson Mosquera this summer as he prepares for his first season in English football.
