‘First time ever’ – Troy Deeney wowed by what Man United summer signing did vs Sunderland

Manchester United claimed their third win of the Premier League season with a 2-0 triumph over Sunderland on Saturday.

Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim was under plenty of sack pressure, but his side’s win before the September international break has given him some breathing room.

Man United’s triumph over the Black Cats came thanks to goals from Mason Mount and summer signing Benjamin Sesko.

Sesko initially struggled in the Premier League, but the striker has now scored two goals in his last two top-flight outings, helping his side climb to the top half.

Senne Lammens shines as Man United defeat Sunderland

Amid a busy summer transfer window at Old Trafford, Man United signed Senne Lammens to rectify their previous goalkeeping issues.

The 23-year-old was handed his Premier League debut on 4 October, and maintained a clean sheet against a previously in-form Sunderland outfit.

BBC Sport pundit Troy Deeney named Lammens in his top-flight team of the week, adding: “Exceptional from the young man against Sunderland. He’s come in at Old Trafford where goalkeepers have struggled and it’s the first time I’ve ever seen a keeper get a standing ovation for coming and claiming a ball. His kicking was excellent, he wasn’t afraid to shout at people either.

However, Football Insider have exclusively revealed that Man United could sign a new first-choice goalkeeper in January, with Lammens viewed as a long-term project at Old Trafford.

Senne Lammens is set for significantly tougher challenges after the international break

Lammens performed well as Man United defeated Sunderland to claim their third win in five attempts, but the former Royal Antwerp man still has a lot to prove in the Premier League.

Amorim’s men face Liverpool in their first game after the international break, which is set to test the 23-year-old, even though the Anfield club have suffered three successive defeats across all competitions.

Facing an attack that boasts top-class talent such as Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak is an entirely different proposition to playing against a newly-promoted Black Cats outfit.

Lammens can further endear himself to the Old Trafford faithful by performing at Anfield, but if he struggles against his side’s bitter rivals, it could heap huge pressure on Amorim once again.

Man United‘s frailties were exposed when they were beaten 3-1 by Brentford on 27 September, while Liverpool will be hungry to get back to winning ways following their defeat against Chelsea.
