‘Flattered’ Patterson at the mercy of Rangers after Everton bid update from Edgar – pundit
Nathan Patterson “will be flattered” by Everton’s interest in his signature but Rangers hold all of the cards in a potential transfer, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Aberdeen and Leeds United striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Gers are in a “strong position” given that the 19-year-old penned a new long-term contract in January.
The Mirror‘s John Cross reported on August 22nd that Everton submitted a £5million bid for Patterson.

Club insider David Edgar of the Heart & Hand Podcast revealed later that day that the bid was rejected immediately.
As quoted by The Scottish Sun (22nd August), Steven Gerrard claimed the reported offer “was out of a joke book” when speaking on the news.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if Patterson could request to leave given he is behind James Tavernier at Ibrox, Whelan said:
“It will be flattering for him, absolutely.
“If Tavernier gets injured, who is your replacement if you’re Steven Gerrard? Patterson is needed at the club right now. I think he could take Tavernier’s spot next season, it’s a possibility.

“We do not know Gerrard’s plan for Patterson. One thing is certain though, if he was to let a player of Patterson’s age and quality go it would only be for a sizeable fee. A fee much more than £5million.
“The club are in a strong position though because Patterson only signed a new contract in January so they will decide what Patterson is worth.”
