Jonny Hayes sends Instagram message to Celtic fans after cruel injury blow

Jonny Hayes has taken to social media to thank Celtic fans for their support after the winger suffered a broken leg in the win over Dundee on Boxing Day.

The summer signing from Aberdeen used his personal Instagram account to also proclaim that “things could always be worse”.

“Football has its ups and down but it’s still the best job in the world! I’d just like to thank everyone for their well wishes, it does mean a lot! I’m lucky enough to have a great medical team behind me and a brilliant bunch of boys that I’ll still see everyday, so things could always be worse,” he said.

Hayes has endured a stop-start season to his Hoops career, as he found it difficult to break into a team that had won a first domestic treble since 2001 and completed it’s first unbeaten season since the 1890s.

However he recently a few games, and scored his first Celtic goal in the 3-0 win over Aberdeen which gave the Bhoys an eight point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

The one bonus for the player is that he will be ready and raring to go for next season’s Champions League qualifiers which are set to begin in July.

Hayes joins fellow winger Patrick Roberts on the long-term injury list at Celtic Park, but the Hoops are fortunate enough to have plenty of players in that position.

Young Michael Johnston replaced Hayes against Dundee and seems to be highly-rated and Scott Sinclair is set to return from injury to return to the Hoops side for the upcoming Old Firm derby against Rangers.
