Former Celtic and Rangers mainstays emerge as candidates for top job in Scottish football – report

Former Celtic captain Jackie McNamara and former Rangers midfielder Dave MacKinnon are on the shortlist to become the next chief executive of the Scottish Football Association, according to a report.
The Evening Times claim that the pair are on the list to replace Stewart Regan, who resigned last week, along with Hibernian chief executive Leeann Dempster and former Scottish First Minister Henry McLeish.
McNamara, who spent ten years with the Hoops winning many trophies in that time, is currently chief executive of York City, who he previously managed.
He also had spells managing Dundee United and Partick Thistle.
McNamara won four league titles in his time with the Hoops, but left the club in 2005 after a dispute with chief executive Peter Lawwell and he eventually signed for Wolves. He also had spells at Aberdeen and Falkirk before moving into management.
MacKinnon spent four years at Ibrox in the 1980s, and had spells working as chief executive and general manager for Kilmarnock, Hamilton and Dundee, and is currently a pundit.
The SFA are also trying to appoint a new manager for the national team as well as a new chief executive, so whoever ends up getting the position has a major job on their hands.
