Former Rangers star Calvin Bassey would ‘love’ to join Fulham after deal agreed – expert

Former Rangers star Calvin Bassey would “love” to join Fulham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers defender Alan Hutton said Bassey would fit in well at Craven Cottage.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (27 July), the centre-back is set to undergo a medical with the Premier League club on Thursday after a deal was agreed between the sides.

The move is expected to be completed in the coming days.

The 23-year-old’s current contract at Ajax runs until 2027 after he joined from Ibrox last summer.

But the defender has struggled for game time at the Dutch club, making 25 league appearances in the 2022-23 campaign.

Bassey had also been linked with fellow Premier League side Brighton but is now closing in on a move to the London club.

When asked if Fulham is as good a destination as the Seagulls, Hutton told Football Insider:I think it is.

It is a team that’s done well under a good coach. I think if he goes there he becomes a better player.

Going to Ajax, some things just do not quite work out. He is a real good footballer with room to develop and learn.

I thought Ajax would have been a good place for him to learn, it is very technical and I think that was the area of his game the he needed to brush up on.

Going somewhere like Fulham I think he would fit in no problem. It is probably the next level for him to go and play in the Premier League and it is likely something he would love to do.
