Four West Ham stars ‘don’t want to play for Moyes’ – expert

West Ham United’s defenders in their defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday (17 February) were “terrible” and they “don’t want to play for David Moyes”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hammers and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie admitted it was the “worst” defensive performance he’d ever witnessed.

The 2-0 defeat at the City Ground was the Irons’ eighth in a row without a win and seventh without a clean sheet in all competitions.

David Moyes decided to keep the same defensive personnel that were demolished 6-0 by Arsenal in their previous match (11 February) – a backline of Vladimir Coufal, Kurt Zouma, Nayef Aguerd and Emerson Palmieri.

West Ham United’s defence against Nottingham Forest was their worst-ever, according to Frank McAvennie

McAvennie suggested that the players no longer want to play under Moyes and was adamant that the backline “can’t carry on” in its current state.

“They were terrible – the whole game was awful,” he told Football Insider.

“The football that we’re getting now is awful.

“I’ve not got a bad word to say about David, but he needs to let the reins go!

“There’s no way he can carry on like this.

“I’m looking at the defence – it’s the worst I have ever seen.

“Zouma – you’ve got to be joking!

“Ogbonna is better than who they’re playing now.

“West Ham don’t look like they want to play for each other or the manager.

“That’s not a good thing.

“David still has credit in the bank, but the fans are fed up.

“We know that he won them a trophy and he’s had them up there [in the table], but we’re talking about the here and now.”
