Frank Lampard: New Everton manager already in last chance saloon – Agbonlahor

Frank Lampard will not be offered another job in the Premier League if he fails at Everton, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted it was a good appointment and Lampard deserves his chance at Everton.

The Blues confirmed on Monday (31 January) the former Chelsea and England midfielder had signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the club.

Despite coming in on deadline day, Lampard was able to add Donny van de Beek and Dele Alli to his squad in the transfer window.

Van De Beek has moved to Goodison Park on loan from Man United while Dele has signed a permanent deal.

Asked for his verdict on Lampard’s appointment, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitey: “Duncan Ferguson couldn’t come in and be put in charge until the end of the season.

“They needed a permanent manager in there. Lampard, for me, did a good job at Derby and did a good job at Chelsea, as well.

“He deserves a chance. He’s going to be hungry to succeed and Everton will know that. He knows that this might be his last chance to get a Premier League job.

“He’ll know that and he’ll be up for the task. I think it’s a good appointment for him.”

Lampard took Derby County to the 2018-19 Championship play-off final in his sole season in charge.

He ended his 19-month at Chelsea with a win rate of 52.38 per cent before being sacked in January 2021.
