Frank Lampard tipped by Kenny to take Everton to ‘new heights’ after early Moshiri backing

Frank Lampard will do “great things” with Everton if he is given time and money to build his own squad.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider as the new Toffees boss made some big calls during his first day on the job.

The Blues confirmed on Monday (31 January) the former Chelsea and England midfielder had signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the club.

Despite coming in on deadline day, Lampard was able to add Donny van de Beek and Dele Alli to his squad in the transfer window.

Kenny insists this is a sign of things to come and has predicted Lampard to be heavily backed in the summer.

“Lampard was an unbelievable player who is used to working at big clubs,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I’m delighted that he’s back in management. Everton needed shakeup and that’s what this is.

“There is pressure straight away though, he needs to get a few wins on the board.

“He has a great chance to build something there though. We have seen he’s been backed already.

“So if he keeps Everton up and he’s still there in the summer, he can start to build his own squad.

“I think he will be given more time than Benitez, Everton can’t afford to have another manager in 12 months time.

“Listen, for me, it’s an exciting appointment. I think he’s going to do great things with Everton and take them to new heights.”

Everton face Brentford in the FA Cup on Saturday (5 February) in what will be Lampard’s first game in charge.

They then return to league action against Newcastle on Tuesday (8 February).

In other news, Everton are racing to sign the next Tariq Lampety in an out-of-window deal.
