Frank Lampard tipped to finalise permanent Chelsea deal after latest development- pundit
Frank McAvennie has suggested another club will “take a chance” on Frank Lampard after he finishes the season with Chelsea.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said taking interim charge of the Blues is a “win win” for Lampard if he is looking to return to management.
The London club confirmed the appointment of the 44-year-old as caretaker manager until the end of the season as they search for a permanent successor to Graham Potter.
Lampard took charge of Chelsea for the first time in 2019 before being sacked 18 months later and replaced by Thomas Tuchel.
The Blues legend took charge of his first game on Saturday (8 April) in a 1-0 defeat to Wolves.
As a result of the defeat, Chelsea are 11th in the league and 12 points clear of the relegation zone.
Lampard has been out of management since leaving Everton in January after helping them fight off relegation last season.
McAvennie insisted Lampard is the answer until the end of the season.
“I think he is an absolute legend there,” he told Football Insider.
“He knows the players inside out, they know he is only there until the end of the season. You need to have somebody like Frank Lampard to carry that off.

“If you know the manager is only there for a couple of months, you do not really listen to them whereas the players will listen to Lampard because he is such a huge character within the football club.
“It is going to be a bonus for Frank if he gets some wins and maybe somebody will take a chance on him again. It is a win-win for Frank.“
