Frank Lampard told to ‘stop whinging’ as controversial Everton quotes emerge – pundit

Noel Whelan has told Frank Lampard to “stop whinging” after he suggested referees were displaying an anti-Everton bias.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, urged the 44-year-old to “concentrate on his job” with the Toffees looking set to battle relegation again this term.

Asked about Conor Coady’s disallowed goal in last week’s Merseyside derby draw (3 September), Lampard told reporters that the strike was chalked off because “we’re Everton”.

Lampard has had several run-ins with officials since taking the Goodison Park job in January.

He even wrote to the PGMOL demanding an explanation after Anthony Gordon was denied a penalty in last season’s away draw against Liverpool (24 April).

Everton are yet to win this term and sit 16th in the Premier League.

Whelan insisted poor officiating “levels itself out” over the course of a season and urged Lampard to think about the “big job on his hands”.

He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “I just think he needs to stop whinging.

“Everything will level itself out over the course of a season, it normally does.

“Everyone’s had a grievance with VAR so far this season – some more than others.

“You can go back to many games, everyone has had something go against them that they didn’t expect.

“Let it go. You’ve got a big job on your hands – time to think about how you’re going to win the next game rather than whinging about the next refereeing decision that doesn’t go your way.

“It doesn’t work in your favour. Concentrate on your job, your team – and the next game.

“Maybe next week something will go for Everton, and he won’t be whinging then.”
