‘It’s been a frustrating time’ – Celtic senior player makes honest admission

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has revealed how “frustrating” this season has been for him after the victory over Dundee.

The former Hibs player made a rare start in the 2-0 win at Dens Park, scoring the Hoops’ second goal as they went 11 points clear at the top of the league.

The goal was Griffiths’ 10th of the campaign and he has now admitted that this season has been tough for him as he battles Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard for the lone striker role preferred by Brendan Rodgers.

“It’s been a frustrating time for me, not scoring and not playing as much as I would like,” he said, as quoted by the Evening Times.

“There is a lot of competition for places between me, Moussa and Odsonne. We have a big game at the weekend so we will see what happens.”

The ‘big game at the weekend’ Griffiths refers to is the Old Firm derby against Rangers at Celtic Park.

Senior player Griffiths got the nod to start the first meeting between the teams this season in September, and responded with the second goal as the Hoops recorded a 2-0 win at Ibrox.

As for the match against Dundee, the Hoops kept up their winning run with a rather workmanlike 2-0 win over Neil McCann’s side.

First-half goals from James Forrest and Griffiths sealed the three points in a match where Craig Gordon has very little to do.

The most notable incident in the game was an ankle injury suffered by Jonny Hayes in the first-half, no word as yet on the severity of his injury.

In other Celtic news, reports are suggesting that the Hoops are set to begin talks with Dundee about signing Jack Hendry
