FSG told to ‘give Jurgen Klopp the money’ after humiliating Liverpool footage is screened – pundit
Frank McAvennie has claimed the Champions League defeat to Real Madrid was a wake-up call to Liverpool owners FSG to back Jurgen Klopp in the summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker insisted the Reds need “young blood” in midfield after their midweek humiliation.
As shown on BT Sport (22 February), despite going 2-0 up against Madrid at Anfield, the Merseysiders went on to lose 5-2 to the reigning champions.
Despite an impressive opening goal inside four minutes from Darwin Nunez, the Reds were heavily beaten by the Spanish giants on home soil.
Liverpool now go into the second leg of the tie with a huge task to secure a place in the next round.
When asked if the defeat to Real will be a wake up call for the owners to back Klopp in the summer window, McAvennie told Football Insider: “I think so.
“It did not take a genius to work out that the midfield is getting on a bit. You look at [Jordan] Henderson compared to [Luka] Modric, he is head and shoulders above.
“They [Real Madrid] let the ball do the work and they just passed it round Liverpool. It is a hard one to come up against Modric and co.
“It was a lesson. They have got to get young blood in midfield.

“Jordan Henderson has been an absolute superstar for them but you look at the bench and Liverpool were bringing on Milner.
“No disrespect he has been a great, But you look at the bench of Madrid, they are bringing in youngsters that will be the stars of the future. Liverpool were bringing on stars of the past and it makes a big difference. He has got to get the money.”
In other news, according to sources, PSG have interest in Mohamed Salah as Liverpool talk about selling superstar.
