Fulham ace Andreas Pereira aims Man City dig with Vinicius Jr message

Fulham midfielder Andreas Pereira appears to have aimed a dig at Man City over their Champions League defeat to Real Madrid.

The two sides played out a dramatic encounter at the Etihad on Tuesday (11 February), with the Spanish giants staging a late comeback to take a 3-2 lead into the second leg of the knockout play-off next week.

That came after Man City goalkeeper Ederson endured a five-minute spell to forget to gift Carlo Ancelotti’s side their two late goals.

Going into the game, there had been already been tension between the two over the reaction of Real Madrid to Man City midfielder Rodri beating Vinicius Jr to the Ballon d’Or.

This match though gave the Brazilian a chance to have a response of his own to the home faithful thanks to that result.

Andreas Pereira sends Vinicius Jr message after Champions League drama

Ahead of the game, Man City fans had revealed a banner taking aim at the winger over that Ballon d’Or controversy, which Jamie Carragher has suggested they will regret given the final result.

Indeed, former Man United man Pereira was among those who appeared keen to make a point about the final result of that match.

Taking to Instagram, the current Fulham midfielder posted a picture of Vinicius Jr celebrating that result by pointing to the badge on the sleeve of his shirt as a reminder that Real Madrid are the current Champions League title holders.

Pereira then tagged his fellow Brazilian, and also included the caption “Bom diaaaaa”, showing he enjoyed that result for Real Madrid against Man City.

Man City season at risk of falling flat after Real Madrid defeat

Football Insider Verdict

There have already been some suggestions that Man City are effectively out of the Champions League following this result.

Given Real Madrid’s history in this competition, and the fact they have home advantage and a lead in the tie it is hard to bet against them for that second leg.

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola‘s side are already facing a huge deficit in the title race, and have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup.

All of that may mean that even with several months of the season still to be played, they only have the FA Cup left to play for.

That would be incredibly underwhelming for a club with the sort of recent history of success that Man City have.

But for a former Man United player and international teammate of Vinicius Jr’s such as Pereira, it is seemingly unsurprisingly rather satisfying.
